MacBeth was one of the earliest members of the Natural Resources Defense Council, formed in 1970. Following, he served as chief of environmental enforcement in the U.S. Department of Justice during the Carter administration. He later was counsel to the Commission on Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians at DOJ and paved the path for reparations for the Japanese-American victims of internment during World War II. From 1986 to 2006, Angus led the environmental group of Sidley Austin LLP as a partner in their Washington, DC office. In addition, he was the 6th president of the American College of Environmental Lawyers.
