Eleanor Beckerman

Elly Beckerman joined the Environmental Law Institute as a Research Associate in July 2022. Her work includes projects examining the incorporation of environmental justice into electric power operations and integrating climate change in compensatory mitigation efforts. She also supports the Belize Fisheries Project, the Pro Bono Clearinghouse, and ELI’s indoor air quality work. Prior to joining ELI, Elly worked with the Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project to provide pro bono legal assistance to low-income Mainers. She also worked with the city of Lewiston, Maine to devise a system for measuring usage and perception of public parks and helped the city map public investments related to Department of Housing and Urban Development grants. Elly grew up in Washington DC and graduated from Bates College with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and minors in Chinese and History. Her senior honors thesis synthesized 150 years of historical housing policy, which she used to inform analysis of contradictions and possible neighborhood trajectories found in Lewiston’s Growing Our Tree Streets Choice Neighborhood Implementation Plan.
