Greta Swanson

As a Visiting Attorney, Greta has been closely involved with ELI initiatives in Tribal consultation and co-management, marine conservation, and human rights and the environment. Her research and publications have addressed international protections of sharks; community fisheries management in the Mesoamerican reef; human rights and the environmental rule of law; and government-to-government consultation and co-management with Alaska Natives. Working with the Chesapeake Legal Alliance, she provided legal advice and representation to local Riverkeeper organizations. Prior to her work at ELI, she was a law fellow with Oceana. Greta holds a BA from the University of Washington in Anthropology, graduating cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in Anthropology, and a JD from the New York University School of Law, where she was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award in Environmental Law. Prior to law school, she served with the U.S. Peace Corps in Swaziland.
