Margaret Badding
Margaret Badding worked as a Research Associate at the Environmental Law Institute from 2021 to 2023. Margaret worked on ELI’s municipal climate change and waste reduction work, including ELI’s Food Waste Initiative, to spearhead key research, work with stakeholders, and draft model ordinances and policy tools for cities to achieve climate and waste goals. Margaret also worked on research studying the effectiveness of California Tribal consultation laws, AB 52 and SB 18, in promoting Tribal sovereignty and well-being. In addition, she assisted with ELI’s China Program, which seeks to improve environmental policy and regulation in China. She tracked and summarized state-level environmental policy developments for the Environmental Law Reporter and coordinated activities of the activities of the International Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement. As an ELI Research and Publications Intern in 2020, she contributed to several projects including ELI’s Local Government Compliance Assistance Center, Ocean Program, and Innovation Lab. Margaret grew up in upstate New York and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Philosophy Politics & Economics (PPE) and Psychology, with a minor in Environmental Studies.
