Environmental Law Institute’s Fall Practice Update is an annual, half-day seminar addressing critical issues in environmental law and management. It allows practitioners to both learn about and share their views on cutting edge environmental legal issues.
Changing World, Changing Practice:
The Next Generation of Environmental Law Practice
What are the issues and trends that are changing environmental law practice today? What legal issues are presented by a world where carbon emissions are constrained and climate is changing quickly? What will it mean to be an environmental lawyer in 2015? Are the skills needed to be the best environmental lawyer evolving? This was a discussion — moderated by Elliott Laws, Pillsbury, Winthrop, Shaw Pittman LLC — of the challenges and opportunities of practicing environmental law today and tomorrow.

International Trends in
Corporate Disclosures about Sustainability
While once just limited to environmental performance, many companies now issue statements and reports about social responsibility, sustainable development, and the climate impacts of their operations. Movements are afoot to integrate financial and sustainability reporting, to police statements about greenhouse gas emissions and offsets, and to demand increased corporate reporting and disclosure. Christopher Bell of Sidley Austin LLP moderated our panel of experts in a discussion of the legal issues surrounding corporate disclosures about environmental and sustainability issues.
