On May 28, 2003 Lal Kurukulasuriya (Chief, Environmental Law Branch, UNEP’s Division of Policy Development & Law) spoke at an ELI seminar about the role played by UNEP in the progressive advancement of environmental law in developing countries and countries experiencing economic transition. Mr. Kurukulasuriya focused on UNEP’s work to strengthen the capacity of legal stakeholders within these countries to effectively participate in the development, implementation and enforcement of environmental law. He also outlined opportunities for partnership between US environmental law organizations and experts and UNEP’s environmental law program.
