The Alberta Landowner Habitat Project

Volume 10, Issue 4, Page 10
Summary

Over the past several years, habitat losses in the settled areas of Alberta have occurred at significant rates as a result of activities associated with agricultural intensification. Activities such as land clearing, heavy grazing, burning, draining, and back-filling of wetlands have resulted in serious habitat losses in east central Alberta and in the Irrigation Districts of southern Alberta. Between 1981 and 1985, for example, the percentage of wetlands impacted by agriculture rose from 25 of 55 percent.
