Summary

Since the completion of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) monumental Chesapeake Bay Study in December 1983, state and federal efforts to restore the ecological vitality of the Bay estuary have become a subject of national importance. A major regional conference held at that time [see National Wetlands Newsletter, Vol. 6, No. 1] concluded with the announcement of an impressive array of remedial programs proposed by the chief executives of Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, the District of Columbia, and EPA.
