Summary
The St. Lawrence-Eastern Ontario Commission was formed by the New York State Legislature in 1969 to "insure optimum conservation, protection, preservation, development, and use of the unique, scenic, aesthetic, historic, ecological, recreational, economic, and natural resources of the St. Lawrence-eastern (Lake) Ontario area." To carry out its legislative mandate, the Commission's program is divided into two major areas: coastal resource planning and coastal resource management. The Commission's coastal resource management division must review all proposed development projects within the service area to determine their potential impacts on the area's resources.
