Summary
During recent hearings on Capital Hill, Congress was urged to develop alternative mechanisms for protection of the nation’s critical wetlands. Many of those testifying agreed that existing preservation approaches, including government acquisition of wetlands property and government regulation of private landowners’ usage of wetlands property, are necessary. However, they also testified that government acquisition and regulation, alone, are inadequate if we are to succeed in preserving our remaining wetlands.
