Limited Development: A Wetlands Preservation Solution

Volume 12, Issue 1, Page 6
Summary

Limited development, undoubtedly one key to the no net loss of wetlands, has been implemented successfully on a local level through the recent cooperative efforts of a landowner, a national and a local trust, and a state agency who collectively sought to protect critical wetland habitat in New York's Thousand Island archipelago. Given the increasing development pressures that threaten the nation's wetland resources and the lack of federal, state, and/or local funding to preserve these areas in their entirety, limited development can be a means to protect wetlands while allowing environmentally sound development to occur.
