Summary

The United States and Canada have recently begun to implement the North American Waterfowl Management Plan. The Plan calls for a 15 year effort to protect and restore over 5 million acres of wetlands in the United States and Canada, at a total projected cost of $1.5 billion. Its primary objective is to restore waterfowl populations in North America to 1970's levels. Signatories to the Plan include the U.S. Secretary of the Interior and the Canadian Minister of the Environment. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the lead agency responsible for implementation.
