Research Reports
ELI publishes Research Reports available for free download that present the analysis and conclusions of the policy studies ELI undertakes to improve environmental law and policy. These reports contribute to education of the profession and disseminate diverse points of view and opinions to stimulate a robust and creative exchange of ideas. Those publications, which express opinions of the authors and not necessarily those of the Institute, its Board of Directors, or funding organizations, exemplify ELI’s commitment to dialogue with all sectors.On April 27, 2021, more than 25 senior officials with expertise in international law and ocean policy, environmental management, and environmental impact assessment (EIA) met at the invitation of the Environmental Law Institute, based in Washington, D.C., to discuss challenges to the successful implementation of an EIA regime as proposed under the United Nation’s draft agreement for the protection of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction (the BBNJ treaty).

Efforts to establish similar groups in other parts of the country have not been successful with the exception of the Tribal Wisconsin Wetland Working Group (TWWWG) created in 2017.
