One tradition in the evening hours for this workshop has been for participants from around the country to get together and play live music. This year, in lieu of live music, musicians from several states, EPA Regions, EPA HQ and ACWA collaborated in the evenings over the week to record a video of a song written for the occasion by state and EPA participants, “Shepherdstown to Cybertown.”

This training workshop provided state, tribal, and territorial water quality program staff with an opportunity to learn about and contribute to strategies for improving the process, products, and outcomes of Clean Water Act Section 303(d) listing and TMDL programs and beyond. The event was made possible through a cooperative agreement between the Environmental Law Institute and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and was held virtually from June 7 to 10, 2021.

Over the last couple of decades, ocean stewardship efforts have turned to focus on several key approaches, such as the creation and enforcement of marine protected areas (MPAs) and the implementation of sustainable fisheries practices, including small-scale fisheries (SSF) co-management.
